Encryption key tools
KEM files are used in connection with meters with wireless M-Bus radio communication and contain encryption keys and information about meter configuration.
KEM files are forwarded automatically when orders contain wireless M-Bus meters and they are subsequently loaded into the reading system in order to create the meters.
Kamstrup Serial Number Reader
Serial Number Reader reads the serial number of Kamstrup meters via an optical reading head and the read number in a file.
Serial Number Reader is used to read serial numbers of meters in which wireless M-Bus modules are retrofitted. On the basis of a file with serial numbers, Kamstrup can then generate a KEM file for the meters in question.
In order to generate a KEM file, send the file with the read serial numbers to the email address orders-shipping@kamstrup.dk, and within 1-2 days, you will receive a link for a KEM file.
Serial Number Reader can also be used together with the program KEM File Manager. See Kamstrup KEM File Manager, User manual for further information about this program.
Serial Number Reader supports the meters in which wireless M-Bus modules are retrofitted.
Serial Number Reader can be used together with:
- Optical reading head with USB plug, Type 6699099
- Optical reading head with 9-pole plug, Type 6699102
Download the file, and install the program on PC. Apart from the program, a USB driver for the optical reading head will be installed. The following operating systems are supported:
- Windows 7 (from Home Premium and newer)
- Windows XP
Kamstrup KEM File Manager
KEM File Manager is a simple tool that is used for splitting up and administering KEM files.
Example 1:
A distributor orders 100 wireless M-Bus meters and receives a KEM file with encryption keys and the meter configuration for them. The distributor resells the meters to two different customers and uses KEM File Manager to split up the KEM file and create new KEM files for the two customers with information related to their specific meters.
Example 2:
The customer orders a number of wireless M-Bus meters and wishes to e.g. load the meters into two different reading systems. The customer uses KEM File Manager to split up the original KEM file and create new KEM files for each reading system.
Download the file, and install the program on PC. The following operating systems are supported:
- Windows 7 (from Home Premium and newer)
- Windows XP
